🗓️ Second round completed on May 29, 2025
The French Open 2025 has just completed its second round, and it’s already becoming clear: this is not the same kind of tournament we’re used to.
It used to be that the top 8 seeds could sleepwalk into the quarterfinals. Sure, sometimes someone ranked 11–15 would make a surprise run, but the tennis hierarchy was mostly stable.
Not anymore.
“Mohamed, remember when tennis was easy? Bunch of random people in the top 50 barely moving…”
— Alexander Bublik, toMohamed Lahyani
Those days are gone. Everyone’s fit, everyone hits big, and no one is safe.
This round delivered a flurry of shockers:
Out in four sets to Nuno Borges, who’s in the form of his life. Clay specialist? Not this year.
Beaten by Gigante in an emotional and physical four-setter. Tsitsipas never looked fully in rhythm.
Usually a threat on clay, but Lehecka overpowered him. The Czech is playing the best tennis of his life.
One of the rising stars who recently beat Djokovic in Miami, but couldn’t handle Henrique Rocha, who played with confidence and aggression.

| Gigante def. Tsitsipas | 6–4, 5–7, 6–2, 6–4 |
| Lehecka def. Davidovich Fokina | 6–3, 3–6, 6–1, 6–2 |
| Rocha def. Mensik | 2–6, 1–6, 6–4, 6–3, 6–2 |
| Djokovic def. Mautet | 6–2, 6–3, 7–6(1) |
With names like Ruud, Tsitsipas, Mensik, and Fokina gone, and Bublik pulling off dramatic comebacks — this tournament feels wide open.
Yes, Djokovic, Alcaraz, and Sinner still look like the men to beat.
But the gap? It’s closing.
Second round completed – Roland Garros 2025
Unlike the men’s draw, the women’s side of the tournament brought no major surprises. The favorites all advanced, and we’re heading toward what looks like a blockbuster Top 8 showdown.
Right now, Aryna Sabalenka seems to be a level above the rest — dominant, calm, and completely in control. Her match against Teichmann was a breeze: 6-3, 6-1. Can anyone stop the Belarusian powerhouse? Maybe an American threat like Coco Gauff or Jessica Pegula, or perhaps Paolini or Iga Swiatek, who is slowly gaining momentum…
The battles ahead will be fierce — and we’ll see who really has the nerves and the game to go all the way.
One emotional note: veteran Victoria Azarenka, one of the greatest of her generation, is out after a hard-fought match. Her experience will be missed in the late stages.
Here are the key results from Roland Garros 2025 second round:
Third round is shaping up to be a battlefield.
With so many surprises already, we’re one big name away from total bracket destruction. Expect fireworks.
